Institute of Physical Chemistry

The Institute of Physical Chemistry

Scientists at the institute are interested in the development and application of frequency, time and spatially resolved laser spectroscopic methods and techniques in the field of biophotonics. In particular, vibrational spectroscopic methods (linear and non-linear Raman and IR absorption techniques) are applied and developed with special emphasis on the rapid identification and molecular characterization of single microorganisms by means of Raman spectroscopy in combination with statistical data evaluation. Furthermore, physico-chemical investigations of the interactions between minerals and microbes are pursued.
