2-Day-Event "Image-based Systems Biology" for JSMC PhD Students

Workshop topic

The general experience that “a picture is worth a thousand words” also holds in the field of Systems Biology. The vast amount of image data which is generated by microscopy experiments of biological processes represents a firm data basis that contains important information on spatio-temporal aspects of these processes. Image-based Systems Biology is a connecting link in joint studies of experiment and theory involving two main aspects: (i) the automatized analysis of image sequences for high-throughput scanning of large data sets on biological processes, and (ii) the integration of spatio-temporal information into modeling approaches and computer simulations of biological processes.

Day 1, Tuesday 18th of September: Image-based Systems Biology in
Practice for JSMC Fellows

You are invited to visit the Research Group "Applied Systems Biology" at the HKI, Jena, to learn how image-based systems biology works in practice - from automated image data analysis to agent-based computer simulation on infection processes. The questions you can ask us are: How are image data analyzed? How to teach computers doing this in an automatized fashion? What can you actually learn from these image data? What is a mathematical analysis of cell tracks good for? How can this analysis be used in subsequent computer simulations? ... and so on.
Prepare your questions - we prepare demonstrations for you!

Day 2, Wednesday 19th of September: Workshop on Image-based Systems Biology

This workshop brings together researchers from all fields of biology with the aim to provide a platform for exchange of scientific methods and recent achievements on image-based systems biology. Also, the idea is to get a general understanding of modern approaches in this developing field of science. More information can be found at the workshop website: www.image-based-systems-biology.com.

Please, register at the JSMC office (ulrike.schleier(at)jsmc.info) BEFORE AUGUST 15, 2012 for this 2-Day-Event! Information on the precise schedule will be provided well ahead of time.

Please note: In case you only want to visit the workshop on Sep 19, you are requested to apply via the workshop website and the normal registration fee applies to JSMC PhD Students.
