Event Calendar
16.08.2012 14:00 - 18:00 o'clock
Organizer: Dr. Falk Warnecke, Institute of Microbiology, FSU Jena
Course details:
ARB is a software package (http://www.arb-home.de/) that was developed for the purpose of using ribosomal RNA sequences in environmental microbiology. So this includes sequence alignment, data management (incl. meta data), phylogenetic evaluation of sequence data (i.e. tree building) and design of discriminatory oligonucleotides to be used for e.g. fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). FISH course(s) will follow. However the software can also be used for other sequence data e.g. functional gene sequences.
The course will consist of a theoretical introduction/background to the software, a live demo and independent work with the software. A manual with a description of the main functions will be provided.
Prerequisites: Some knowledge of using command line is an advantage but not a prerequisite.
Date: August 16 - 17, 2012
Time: 2.00 pm - 6.00 pm (each day)
Location: URZ, Am Johannisfriedhof 2, Computerpool 2, Raum E043, http://www.uni-jena.de/Computerpool2_URZ.html
Meeting Point: URZ, Raum E043
The number of participants will be limited to 8 in order to assure a workshop environment conducive to “hand to hand” exercises.
