JSMC course: Machine Learning of images and spectra data using R

The workshop will give an introduction into machine learning of image and spectral data using the scientific computing environment R. In order to apply machine learning techniques a complex data pipeline needs to be developed, which removes artefacts, standardizes the data and there after extract higher-level information from the data. This data pipeline needs to be customized for a specific measurement method and for a given task. The workshop and the connected practical work will develop such a data pipeline for image data and spectral data. We will use stained cell images and Raman spectra as an example but these data will lonely be used as example, while all methods can be applied to other data as well. Beside this practical aspect of the workshop an instruction into theory of machine learning and a description of common correction procedures will be given.

The number of participants will be limited to 10 in order to assure a workshop environment conducive to “hand to hand” exercises. Students only need a basic background in chemistry.

Participants need to bring their own laptop.
