The soft skill training is based on the scientific education students receive and is closely linked to the microbiological education provided within JSMC to support career development.
- PhD students can choose from a comprehensive range of transferable skills courses and seminars, for which they receive credits, provided within the JSMC network or by the Jena Graduate Academy.
- Language courses such as scientific English or German as a foreign language are provided centrally by the FSU; they offer credits, and the costs for such courses are covered by JSMC.
- Teaching of fellow students is credited to support teamwork and to provide a basis for future teaching responsibilities.
- Communication of research results to the public is strongly encouraged and credited, e.g. presentations at Thuringia Day, at the Night of the Sciences in Jena, at fairs, in non-scientific publications, etc.
