The ‘Jena School for Microbial Communication (JSMC)’ is a Graduate School of Excellence at Friedrich Schiller University in Jena. While the central topic is “Microbial Communication”, the scientific scope of the graduate school goes beyond purely microbiological questions and brings together not only scientists in the field of biology, but also chemists, physicists, medical scientists, pharmacists, earth scientists, and bioinformaticians. This is facilitated by a lively network of academic partner institutes and organizations, which collaborate closely and which host the PhD Students of the JSMC.
The JSMC is a member institution of the Jena Graduate Academy (GA) at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena. The Jena Graduate Academy was established to create a research environment of the highest international standard for PhD students of all disciplines and to provide training for challenging positions of responsibility in science, business and society.
